Mago Books is an independent (indie) publisher, which began to publish in 2015. It has been a natural outgrowth of the Return to Mago E-Magazine since, since 2012. Mago Books plans, self-publishes and distributes books to remind everyone of the innate power of self-healing/awakening/redeeming!

Matthew Kim Hagen
Mr. Hagen has served as copy-editor for Mago Books since 2015. His meticulous proofreading and acute editorial suggestions prove invaluable for Mago Books publications. His specialty is in the 19th century English Literature and interdisciplinary works. Hagen earned M.A. in English Literature from Claremont Graduate University and almost completed his Ph.D. requirements in English Literature. He has taught English literature and English composition for several universities in southern California including University of La Verne and Chaffey College for the last two decades.
Helen Hye-Sook Hwang
Helen Hye-Sook Hwang, Ph.D. is scholar, activist, and advocate of Magoism, anciently originated tradition that venerates Mago as the Great Goddess. She earned her MA and Ph.D. in Religion with emphasis on Feminist Studies from Claremont Graduate University, CA. She also studied toward an MA degree in East Asian Studies at UCLA, CA. Hwang has taught for universities in California and Missouri, U.S.A. Since 2012, Dr. Hwang has founded and directed The Mago Work whose branches include the Return to Mago E-Magazine (http://magoism.net), Mago Academy (http://magoacademy.org), and Mago Books (https://www.magobooks.com). She also co-founded Gynapedia (https://gynapedia.magoacademy.org) and Mago Pool Circle (https://mpc.magoacademy.org) to broaden The Mago Work. She co-edited and published She Rises: Why Goddess Feminism, Activism, and Spirituality? Volume 1 (Mago Books, 2015), She Rises: How Goddess Feminism, Activism and Spirituality? Volume 2 (Mago Books, 2016) as well as Celebrating Seasons of the Goddess (Mago Books, 2017). Also authored The Mago Way: Re-discovering Mago, the Great Goddess from East Asia (Mago Books, 2015) and Mago Almanac: 13 Month 28 Day Calendar annually since 2018.
Self-publishing
Your book will be treated as one of Mago Books up to publication. You may have an option of distributing it on your own. For non-US writers and self-publishers, we offer printing and distributing within the U.S.

We are interested in publishing books on Goddess, feminism, and activism, broadly defined, for both grown-ups and children, without the exception of a topic in humanities, social sciences and other creative fields. Art, photography, and poetry genres are welcome as well.
Once you submit a proposal, Mago Books will have an editorial assessment to determine for the kind of editing it requires (substantive editing, copyediting and/or proofreading).

Preparing your Manuscript
Mago Books formatting follows the Chicago Manual of Style.
The following may be adapted by the Mago Books copy-editor for a fee of US$40-45 per hour. Manuscripts submitted (1) using another citation format, e.g. APA or MLA, (2) having citations, footnotes, and references/bibliography issues, (3) when images and texts/captions are ungrouped (please see below Tips for frequently mistaken practices), (4) including too big or too little images, figures and/or tables in size or format, and (5) in such other multiple errors as improper alignment, line spacing, footnote numbers, curved quotation marks, and references/bibliography.
Authors will be contacted to correct minor and technical corrections, which are not aligned with the standard, until all mistakes are corrected.
Tips for frequently mistaken practices
1. We use a period or comma before the quotation mark. It’s the Chicago manual of styles that Mago Books adheres to.
2. Add footnote numbers AFTER quotation marks or punctuations.
3. When you make a footnote for the same item a second time, please use “Shortened notes.” Below link will help you how to make “Shortened notes.” Also note the difference styles for Notes (one sentence with commas) and References or Bibliography (several sentences, each block of information needs a period) for each entry.

4. All URLs in Footnotes and References/Bibliography need a period at the end.
5. M.A. or Ph.D. dissertations are treated as articles in Footnotes and references/bibliography).
6. In references/bibliography, use a “3-em dash” in place of repeated author’s name ______. or use 6 hyphens (upper dashes in the keyboard).

Final Corrections for Authors: All authors will be asked to make final and minor changes toward the end of the editorial process via email. In your email to co-editor(s), please use this form. You may create your own table and/or adjust below to your convenience. Or you may include all categories in a plain text if preferring not to use a table.
